Hibiscus

I just love our hibiscus. Many thanks to Cletus' work friend. When we moved in she gave us a truck load of plants, including about twenty hosta plants and four hibiscus.

Fourth of July Memories, Part Two

1987 was another 4th of July that I remember... Cletus and I lived in Alaska. We joined most of Anchorage in a big field to watch fireworks. Even though it was July, it was still cold. So we were sitting in that field wearing jackets. I remember wishing we had brought blankets. We had to wait until it got dark enough to see the fireworks. We ended up waited until after midnight! And even then it was not completely dark. We didn't get home until after 2am! It was surreal!

Fourth of July Memories

This picture is my dad, my grandmother and myself on July 4th long long ago. My maternal grandmother's (Grace Lucille) birthday was July 2nd. So, growing up, we spent every Fourth of July at her house. It is strange what the mind remembers. I only seem to remember drinking Pepsi (we only drank Coke at our house) and grandmother's jello. She always made a lime jello salad with canned pineapple and mini-marshmallows. I'm not sure who came up with that combination...but it wasn't good. She made another jello salad with orange jello, shredded carrots and raisins...it was even worst. Needless to say, she had the reputation of not being able to cook. I wonder what my kids (and eventually grandkids) will remember about me. I guarantee they won't remember my making any jello salad combinations.

Road Trip

When it comes to traveling, my Christian sisters and I are the "sitting on G and ready for O" type of people. We hardly need an excuse to take a roadtrip. While on one roadtrip, we are planning the next! You never know what we will come up with. Miss Goofy wanted to know if we like California roll/sushi. Miss Gassy said that if we could make it with chocolate and peanut butter that she would be all for it. So, one of these days, I think we are going to try to create a sushi dessert? Hmm. Not sure how of if this is going to be possible. But knowing us, we will have a lot of fun and laughs doing it. Personally, I like my "sushi" either marinated and grilled or battered and deep fried.

My sisters in Christ: Miss Gassy, me (Miss McGuyver) and Miss Goofy. We shouldn't be allowed to have such fun! And someone should have told the city of Atlanta that we were coming! Since I'm smiling in this picture, it was obviously taken before I was denied my ham sandwich. I did get a turkey sandwich...but mine didn't have any cheese. That's ok, I'm over it now. And I had an awesome time!!

I had the privilege of seeing Kay Arthur (left), Priscilla Shirer (center), Beth Moore (right) and Mandisa (who sang the roof off of Philips Arena ) this weekend in Atlanta. I had an awesome time with 19,000 of my closest friends.
