Continental Divide

The Gore Range is part of the Continental Divide. I have never seen it without some snow on it. I just had to marvel at the vastness...and wonder what the pioneers thought when they got that far on their trek to California!

Sunday Brunch

Then I had brunch...also known as second breakfast...with my brother and his wife. He is five years older and picked on me relentlessly. He used to tell me that the police brought me and left me on the doorstep. What a nice brother. He also fed me Crisco one time; telling me that Mom made cookies with them. He was also generous enough to share "his" chocolate bar with me. Too badedly (not a real word), it was unsweetened baking chocolate. His wife assured me that he has mellowed since then. I have my doubts.

The Great Plains

This is looking south towards Colorado Springs.

I think I can see Kansas from here. I have only seen one concert at Red Rocks Ampitheatre, it was Jefferson Starship and .38 Special. The scenery is unbeatable and the acoustics are fabulous!

Wonder why it is called that?

So, Sunday (of last week), I-70 was open and I drove up to Red Rocks. It is so pretty up there and it was quite clear. Just an awesome place to say: God was having a good day when he made Colorado!! Love the statue (of my boyfriend)...hee hee.

Winter Wonderland

The snow stopped quickly and the rest of the trip was clear blue skies and sunny. The mountains looked amazing. Even the pictures do not do them justice. This is from the golf course a couple of blocks from where I grew up.

Trip to Colorado

Originally, I was going to fly out to Denver to see my Dad, Sissy and brothers. I was expecting lots of shopping and general goofing around. That didn't happen. I left the house at 2:30a to catch a 6:00a direct flight out of Nashville. Good thing I left the house early. I got lost in Fayetteville. I'll bet you didn't know that it is actually possible to get lost in Fayetteville! Well, with me, about anything odd is possible. I felw into a blizzard. There was at least six inches of snow on my rental car. I was so bad that everyone was driving 35mph down I-70!! Good thing I left the flip flops and swimsuit at home. Not really sure why...but the pool was closed. And two miles past where I stay, I-70 was closed too!! Not even people with 4 wheel drive and chains got through. I heard later that there was an avalanche threat and some poor family from Kansas had to be dug out of one.

Land of Giants

Buddy went to the doc yesterday for a check up. The nurse had to stand on a chair to measure him. He is now officially 6'5"!! At age 17, he may still grow some more. I rather hope not. Finding size 38" waist and 38" length pants is challenging enough!

Last week, Tdawg had his football physical and is up to 5'11" (he will be 15 in August). Tdawg will likely hit a growth spurt here soon. He already wears the same size shoe as Buddy. Tdawg says that he wants to be 6'7". I will be surprised if he gets that tall. I have big feet for a girl...size ten. But check out Tdawg's new football cleats. Size 15!!

Kid at Heart

I'm a kid at heart. I still love dyeing Easter eggs. I think I'm still a frustrated art teacher. Maybe I missed my calling? Each year I try to think up something different. This year I wrapped the peach, purple and jade egg with rubberbands before dyeing. It is harder than you might think to make the rubberbands stay on.

Wild Weekend

It happens every year, the weekends during the winter are just blah. But the minute it warms up, I have more to do than there are hours in the day. Saturday was a prime example. We, that is Cletus, is one big step closer to being finished. He painted the front porch, the front door and took care of the lock hardware. Bless his heart, it was way more trouble than it should have been. But it looks AWESOME! During that time, I was volunteering at our company golf tournament from 7a until 2p. Then I ran over to Quiet Observations' Pampered Chef party. I love Pampered Chef. I used their products daily. I couldn't live without the pizza stone, can opener and spoon-ula (spatula spoon combo). So I'm excited to get my new stoneware muffin cups and barbecue tongs. You would almost believe that I actually cooked occasionally (that's ok, I used to believe that too). Actually, I go to the parties to keep up appearances and eat the prepared food. Miss Lara did not disappoint. She even emailed me the recipes. I will print them out and put them in a protective sleeve in my 3 ring binder cookbook. And there they will stay...untried. Maybe I should try a belated New Years' revelation to cook more...Hmmm. However, the rest of Saturday slipped away. Picking up dinner and Tdawg from his friend's paintball birthday party. Before I knew it, it was after 11p and I was exhausted.

Brain Dump

Ok, so I have huge bag of tiny crayons and I hate to just throw them away. So, I was thinking about melting them in a double boiler-type arrangement (using several old veggie cans). Then pouring the wax in a random batik pattern on material (muslin). Pull off the dried wax and have the color of the crayon still on the material. I think we did something like that in art class when I was in sixth grade. That is unless any of you can help with a better use of one inch crayons.
