Halloween

I try to do as much as possible with and for Buddy. It is really hard to find Fall Festival activities for a 6'4" Spiderman. Cletus took him to the Miracle League festival and Scarecrow Trail at the Botanical Gardens on Saturday. Wednesday, I took him to the CBC activities. But he still wants to trick or treat. How can I tell him no? I tried and he pouted, cried and fussed. I finally gave in and TDawg offered to walk with him around the neighborhood. He was so happy! He has no concept of you are too old to trick or treat.

Flashback Friday

Superman and Batman! Two Superheroes in one family!

They were so cute as Fred Flinstone & Barney Rubble!

CBC Fall Fest

"A" was not a happy pumpkin. He was a tired pumpkin!

"Z" was an adorable puppy!

Precious wanted the camera more than candy!

"Mini me" wanted just one more cookie...and one more...and one more.

Buddy had the best time of all!

Flashback Friday-Happy Halloween?

I remember this day vividly. I had tried to take them to the mall for some fall festivities. Apparently a nap would have been a better idea. They were two very tired and unhappy pumpkins!

The Clampett's

We hardly ever get a picture done. This took lots of effort but I think it was worth it. Who knows when we will do this again!

Moon

The moon has always been a source of fascination for me. I used to take my Dad's binoculars and stare at the moon. I usually took my flashlight with me. I had decided that if I pointed my flashlight on the moon, that it would shine brighter. I'll bet you didn't know that the fullness of the moon was based on whether my mom thought I was wasting the batteries in the flashlight! She just didn't understand how important my job was. Ah to be a kid again!!

Six Things

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder has a tag challenge of your six favorite things...in no particular order:
1. Buddy singing (especially since we once wondered if he would ever speak)
2. Autumn: the changing colors, the smell of wet leaves and a wood fireplace, the clear blue sky during the day and the huge red-orange moon at night...all of it.
3. A blanket straight out of the dryer (with a good book and some chocolate).
4. A Hug (from one or both of my teenagers)
5. A God Moment...when it is least expected, but greatly needed and appreciated.
6. When I know exactly what Cletus is thinking without either of us saying a word.
Only six There are so many more...

Really?

I was accused of being "high maintenance" today! Hey, that is only an accusation. It has NOT been proven. But then Merlin at work quoted from the movie "When Harry Met Sally" and said that I'm the worst kind of high maintenance because I'm a high maintenance that doesn't think that she is high maintenance.

Fortune Cookie Continued.

At work, some of us were pondering the deep question of “What would happen if I just got in my car and drove west?” G said "Well Laurie would get hopelessly lost in Mississippi !” Gee thanks. So, I am only capable of driving a couple hundred miles and then I’d be cluelessly lost? Is that what people really think of me?? Mind you, I’m not saying that they are wrong…I just thought that I hid it better than that. Apparently not.

Truth is Stranger than Fiction

So we had an agreement, if Tdawg got straight A's, he could grow out his hair. And he did for two years. He got an 89 in Honor's Biology this time. So I jokingly said: Ok, time for a haircut. And he said ok. What?? He decided that he would get it cut for basketball. So last night, the stylist, who loves Tdawg's hair, was just a fussing over him. At one point he had two female stylists fussing over him. His new nickname courtesy of them: Fabio!

Fortune Anyone?

My fortune cookie yesterday said "You will step on the soil of many countries in your lifetime". Hmm. Canada is a little chilly this time of year. Mexico is nice and toasty and not too far of a drive. I heard that the traffic going into Mexico isn't too bad. But I think it is a sign that I should go on the cruise to the Bahamas in January. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :-)

Update

So how is my resolve to be resting this week? um, maybe not. After church, I went to the picnic. I did sit, talk and take pictures most of the time. But then off to the mall. Can you believe that Tdawg wears a size 13 shoe? He will be as tall as Buddy before too long. Well, maybe I'll get to bed early...but don't bet on it.

Isn't that Always the way?

I was at Publix this afternoon, and don't you just know that the one time that a handsome man stops and asks where a grocery item is located, you are standing there with embarrassing medical and feminine items! It seems to be a pattern with me. It is when I have been working in the yard and look like crap, I will run into someone. If I think that I look all that...I see no one! So, if I run into you looking like I just ran through a wind tunnel...you'll know that it is just a typical day for me!

Goodness Gracious

So, two weeks out of major surgery...I'm feeling a little blasted. Of course, it is my own fault. I'm still having a few minor health issues. In addition, I worked a full forty hours this week. I also attended Buddy's last Miracle League Fall Baseball game of the season. And Buddy's Special Olympic Track and Field events. And Tdawg's basketball tryouts. Needless to say, by Wednesday, my tush was dragging the ground! I did go to bed early on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately, I'm not sleeping very well. I reckon that I am not as young and resilient as I used to be...so I guess I'm not as invincible as I thought I was? I do plan to have a more boring week this week...I wonder how well that is going to work out?

Get Real!

I had the best time today at our Ladies' Conference: Get Reat with Shelley Hendrix and Erica Branch. It was fabulous!! And I thought Mrs. Blessed Beyond just looked radiant at the Welcome Table! The whole team did such a wonderful job with all black and white decorations on a shoestring budget. I'm so glad that I was feeling well enough to attend!! Erica's singing blew off the roof. She has such a gift!! I have to noodle on all that Shelley shared; I'm sure that I will never view a jar of clay nor a band-aid the same again. I'm looking forward to diving into her book On Purpose For A Purpose. I'll add a link to her blog so that everyone can share the blessing.

I was surprised

I straightened Tdawg's hair two weeks ago for HS homecoming. He really needs a trim, at least. But the on-going agreement was all A's means no haircut. But if Tdawg got a B then snip snip. Well, he got an 89 in Honor's Biology. So I jokingly said that he had to get a haircut and to my surprise, he said ok. He said that he decided after signing up for rec basketball on Tuesday, that he would get a haircut. Now I have to find someone who can cut his hair to his liking! Wish me luck!

Special Olympics Track & Field

Tuesday was a picture perfect day to be outside. Buddy got a second place ribbon for the 100 meter dash and a third place ribbon for the softball throw. Buddy and his teammates had such a great time...their enthusiasm is contagious!

I just love baby showers. We had these three little ones all under six months. Simply astounding how personalities are already evident!

Paroled!

I visited the doc this morning. And yes, believe it or not, I have been paroled for good (yes, I said GOOD) behavior! I am the poster child of recovery. I can drive, work and resume my life :-) Whoo hoo!

Serious Boredom

Nothing like passing the time by taking pictures of yourself. Ok, I was really bored!

Lets All Get Involved

The Adtran Trainers (pictured), aka Train Gang, and I walked in a 5k last weekend. The preliminary number raised here locally was 80k. I sure hope it helps us get closer to a cure. Several good friends of mine have been told that a cure is close... for thirty years! It is time to get busy! Please support your local efforts!!!

Hedgeapples

I have the strangest tree in the backyard. From research, I have determined that it is a Hedge apple. It is not native here. The "fruit" is really odd. It is about the size of a baseball and very dense. It would seriously hurt to be conked on the head with one of these as it falls off of the tree. The fruit is not edible but people put them in their garage to keep away spiders. Not sure about that being true, so, Cletus has buckets of them in the garage.

Doing better

Well, I must be doing better...I'm getting a little stir crazy! I am not much for being idle and lounging around anyway. And I have now seen enough daytime tv to last me a lifetime! Yikes!! My follow up appointment with the doc is Friday, so fingers crossed, that will be my freedom date too! I spoke to my boss yesterday. Another lady she knows had this surgery and has been under house arrest for four weeks!! But she had the other kind of surgery with the stitches and staples. Thankfully, I was a good candidate for the robotic-assisted. I'm sore from being upside down for two hours...but other than that no complaints. I'm counting the minutes until I feel 100%!!

Simple Pleasures

Amazing how the simplist things can make you happy: a hot shower, a nap on cool crisp sheets, sitting in the warm sunshine admiring the changing leaves, and clean, comfy clothes. Ahhh. I feel much better!

Superior Genetics?

Well, my Dad maybe right afterall. He thinks that we have superior genes. Hmmm. Not so sure. It might be that I am just a "tough old bird". I seriously cannot believe that I had major surgery just two days ago. I am still pain and pain med free...the prescriptions never got filled! The bod is an amazing creation!

Well Worth it...so far

Well I survived the hysterectomy surgery..whoo hoo! and I'm back home (yippee) without pain pills. This robotic surgery is great. I hardly feel like I've had surgery!! Don't worry I still plan to take it easy. I get reminded every time a have to sneeze or cough or have to get up that I'm still recovering. Again thanks for the prayers for me and the fam. Poor Cletus looks wiped; maybe since I'm home, he will get a good nights sleep. And Buddy looks worried. He keeps coming in and hugging me. Being Autistic, it is hard to know what Buddy is thinking. But I think that I'm safe in saying that everyone is glad to get me back home (including me).
