Mystery

I have a question for all you dog lovers: What in the world is my dog missing in her diet for her to eat every one of these (pictured below) that she can find?

Dinner

This is the perfect match of food and pyrotechnics. I think I missed my vocational calling. Ok, so I once burnt off my eyebrows and bangs with a gas grill...well, as Cletus is fond of saying: There isn't enough insurance in the world. Maybe I'll stick with accounting and my little papercuts...

Custom Craftmanship

Cletus took apart the vanity mirror so the frame could be painted. The mirror is quite heavy, so we were surprised at what was holding it up:

shims and tacks? I am surprised that the whole thing had not crashed to the ground years ago. It has been through at least five moves.

It's HOT!

Summer in the south. Thank goodness for our new a/c unit!

Fugitives for Dessert?

One day, Cletus and I got a babysitter and we were out on a date. We decided that we wanted a Cheesequake blizzard from DQ. So we headed south on Pulaski Pike just past University Drive. Just ahead, under the interstate bridge, we saw all sorts of police cars. The cars in front of us abruptly turned into the neighborhood. We are not familiar with that area of town (not a very nice area of town!) So, we figured that there had been a bad accident. So, Cletus makes a u-turn and heads back the other way to find an alternate route.

We had barely got turned around and going before we were pulled over with the flashing blue lights. Cletus and I looked at each other: What is going on?!? Jokingly, I suggested that he gouge it and make a run for it. At this point in time we were going maybe 15 miles an hour. A slow speed White Ford Explorer chase just wasn’t as glamorous as the famed White Ford Bronco high speed chase.

So, of course, Cletus pulls over and gives the officer his license, registration and proof of insurance. The officer says ok and tells us to have a nice evening. So officer: What did we do?? Well, unknowingly, we avoided a checkpoint! So I’m sure that the officer thought that we had turned around because we had something to hide: suspended license, stolen car, arrest warrants, drugs, etc. We could have been fugitives from justice! But no, we just really wanted a blizzard before we had to go back and relieve the babysitter.

The Braces are Off!

Thankfully straightening Tdawgs teeth did not take long! And they look so nice!!

Do I Need Any Help?

"Hi! My name is Laurie. (Everyone say: "Hi Laurie). And I am addicted to painting. I has been 12 hours (voice shaky) since I last held a paint brush (scattered applause)..."

"...it was great attending this 12 step program meeting...but I have to go register for another painting class!"(sad, but true).

Shout Out

Gotta give a shout-out to Ranky's Ramblings. Ranky is a dear friend and was once my Sunday School teacher. He graciously wrote a post about Cletus and I. Since there is "no hair growing on this tale" (meaning it is a true story), he changed our names to Raffi Plowman and his wife, Leala. So if you have time, find Rankys Ramblings on the left hand side and read the tale of Raffi Plowman's surgery.

Update...

I wanted just one thing this week: no drama. “So how’s that workin’ out for ya, Laur?” Um, well, not so good, actually…

Tdawg called me Monday morning. He was at football practice running sprints and felt a snap (like a rubber band). He thought that he had pulled his left hamstring and was in pain. So, we got him into the TOC (the orthopaedic center), also known as my home away from home. It turns out that Tdawg cracked the growth plate in the femur, where the hamstring attaches to the bone. (can you say “ouch!”). So he is currently on crutches. If he does not behave, he will be out the rest of the football season. We are all praying for a speedy full recovery.

He actually made it four days longer into summer break without literally breaking something. It was June 10th of last year when he broke his arm. Four days is some kind of record…right? Ugh! Tdawg's name is written on every one of my gray hairs!!

Dear Vacation, wish I was there...

I too am missing the beach!! Last year was so gorgeous and so much fun!

Looking at the pictures online makes me wonder if BP has ruined the Gulf coast for my lifetime.

I still cling to the hope of squeezing in some sort of a vacation...but it seems to be sliding away. Work is crazy. Tdawg is injured again and on crutches...

Baseball Season Ends

It is already the end of baseball season! We started off the season with our coats on and ended up baking and steaming in the heat. It was a lot of fun. If these kids do not warm your heart, nothing will!

Desk: Before and In Progress

The bedroom set from my grandmother is in bad shape...and has been for a long awhile. The desk, dresser and chest have significant water damage on the top. Don't get too upset, it is veneered and not the greatest wood. So I'm finally getting around to painting it.

I am starting with the desk in an almond color...it is taking a lot of coats and there are lots of nooks and crannies. Yikes! And then spray painting the knobs a hammered copper color. Then I plan to "antique it" with some darker paint.

Vipers!

I had just waay too much fun last night at the Vipers game. Arena football is very fast paced (and loud). You sit so close that you very much feel like a part of the action.

Paint Paint and More Paint

While Cletus rode to D.C and back...the boys and I were either painting like maniacs or running to Lowe's for more paint.

Everything took two coats of paint. The rolling part of painting was not bad. The trim, especially up by the ceiling was not fun. And the taping and moving everything back and forth took forever!

"Bimini Blue" for Tdawg's room:

"Dusty Leaf" for my room, bath and closet

Sadly, it just makes the rest of the house look dingy. I think the kitchen will be the next project....after I recover from this one!

Run for the Wall 2010

This year, Cletus (Right)and two friends participated in the Run for the Wall. It is a motorcycle ride from California to Washington D.C.. Cletus, Bubba and Bubba's father-in-law met up with the ride in Indiana and rode with them to D.C. They had a great trip!

Run For The Wall recognizes the sacrifices and contributions made by all veterans who have served our nation. Veterans of recent conflicts and those currently on active duty are especially welcome to join us as we ride for those who cannot.

Mission Statement: To promote healing among ALL veterans and their families and friends, to call for an accounting of all Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action (POW/MIA), to honor the memory of those Killed in Action (KIA) from all wars, and to support our military personnel all over the world.

Philosophy: We strive to maintain a safe, supportive and private atmosphere in which all participants can reflect and heal on their journey to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. in the hope that they can return home to a new beginning.

Goals: To guide the participants across America. To educate future generations as to the importance of accountability in wartime actions emphasizing that no one should be left behind. To participate in Rolling Thunder in support of their demand for government accountability for POW/MIA's.
