Christmas Eve - Part IV
And home again. Wow has it been a long exhausting day. Isn't it funny how you really do not plan a family traditions, it just happens. It was nice to hear Tdawg talking about some of his Christmas memories. He mentioned that he always get a new ornament in his stocking. I did not planned it, but now it is a tradition.
Time to go nestle all snug in my bed with visions of sugarplums (?) dancing in my head. Um, if they are dancing, how am I supposed to sleep? There will be no dancing tonight. My head will barely hit the pillow and I will be in la-la land. Hopefully, the jolly fat man will grade on a curve and put me back on the nice list.
Christmas Eve - Part III
I got a Denver Bronco snuggie from my mother in law. From the tv commercials, I thought you would zip yourself in. But it is basically an extremely long robe with huge sleeves. Tdawg said it looks like a cape. The way it drags the ground, I feel a bit like an over sized dust mop!
Christmas Eve - Part II
After the CT scan, the fam went over to my in-laws to celebrate Christmas with them. I got to see my great niece, Z-babygirl. She is so cute and tiny.
Wow, I sure wouldn't want to start all over again. I still remember that the first year is exhausting! My niece looked good despite the C-section and ten days with little or no sleep.
Ahh...baby toes!

Christmas Eve Day - Part I
"Are you kidding me...it is the day before Christmas, already?" My sentiments exactly. Shopping was done, even though you can always do more. The stocking for my nephew, um, not so done. Well, thankfully he is two and doesn't know the difference.
Once again, despite the promise to myself, I took on too much this year. I champion-ed five mission projects: soldier box, nursing home trees, blankets for the nursery, pillows & backpacks for the rescue mission. Also made seven homemade gifts. What was I thinking??
I am still not feeling well. I went for a CT scan on Christmas eve day. It took 2-1/2 hours. Mostly because my nurse had to call in another nurse to start my IV. I now have a bruise 4" long and 1" wide!! (I'll spare you the photo image) Ugh. I don't know how they expect you to drink that horrible stuff. It tasted like flat cherry 7-UP and mud...with a wicked aftertaste. Actually flat cherry 7-UP and mud would probably taste better!! And then they make to drink a second one. Yuk! But if I get some answers, it will all be worth it.

Takin' A Break
You have two choices: you either take a break from it all...or your body makes you take a break from it all. Dr. Eddie asked me if I have been under any stress. Don't ya just love when doctors ask you that? Um, lets see...I have a husband, two teenage boys, a full-time job, the holidays and the closing of Dad's estate. Nah, no stress here! Dr. Eddie diagnosed me with a kidney infection and gave me medicine. I fell asleep after the news last night...not the 10pm news...the 6pm news! I must have been exhausted! And again, I guess I'll call it a night. Apparently 12 hours of sleep and two naps isn't quite enough.

Grace Strikes Again
I fought the law(n) and the law(n) won, as the song goes...sort of. Yes, I managed a full fledged face plant into the front yard on Friday night. Ouch!! It happened so fast that I did not have time to try and stop my fall. That is one of those good/bad things. Good: I did not re-break my arm. Bad: I took it on the chin (literally). I'm sure it would have been a Kodak moment...thankfully no one saw me, except the dog. And she is the reason I fell in the first place. I did managed to bend my toes backwards. I don't think that I broke any...but they sure does hurt!

Christmas Tree Field Trip
My Sunday school class decided to take on some Christmas cheer projects. One of them was to make these cute little Christmas trees. They are about two feet tall and flat, so you can hang them on the wall (and easily store them flat). Kudos goes to Miss Teresa for coming up with this incredibly clever idea (based on a picture she saw in a magazine!). Miss Gassy’s husband, Mister Jimmie, was sweet and welded the triangular frame for us. Then last Sunday, we wrapped the frame with stiff garland, securing it to the frame with twist ties. Then we twist-tied a small strands of lights, ribbon, ornaments and whatever else was donated to make ten of these little Christmas trees.
This Sunday, we had a field trip to the local nursing home. We hung one Christmas tree in each bedroom and one in the common area/tv room. The lady working there was completely overwhelmed. It never occurred to me that the workers would enjoy the Christmas trees just as much as the residents. We got to meet the cutest little lady. We were asked to guess how old she will be on her birthday next week. V guessed 39 and the little lady just giggled! She was born in 1912, which makes her almost 97 years old! Wow! We should all be so fortunate to make it that long.
The whole experience from start to finish was such a blessing to my class! We decided that we should have a lot more field trips!

Thanksgiving part 2
The second thanksgiving was on Friday. My sister and her husband drove down from Minneapolis (bless their hearts!). I cooked dinner on Friday and then after the football game we went to the Galaxy of Lights. Saturday we played with computers and then went to Bridge Street outdoor mall. I sure do miss her and wished she lived closer.

Drivin' Mizz Daizy
Ever since Tdawg got his learner’s permit, he wants to drive everywhere. We have started out on the back roads. It takes some noodling to figure out clear routes and to make sure there is a traffic light to cross the “big roads”. He has done very well. He has good instincts. He is slowly becoming less afraid of oncoming traffic. He blew it big time the other day when he patted my knee and said “Haw ya doin’ Mizz Daizy”. Sadly I had a flash-forward to the days when my driving privileges are revoked due to age and he is my sole source of transportation. Oh dear, I feel old!

Thanksgiving Part 1
It was nice to have a few days of rest. The previous weekend we cleaned the garage and got all of the Christmas displays up. The first Thanksgiving feast was held at my mother-in-law's house on Thanksgiving day. We never know quite what to expect. This year, we feared that my niece, Tater, would go into labor in the middle of dinner. She was in the E.R. twice last week and has had regular contractions. Thankfully, she made it through the whole dinner without any excitement. She took off to go to two more festivities...so she is not in the grandkid pictures.

Smile really BIG
Tdawg is getting braces. Last night's appointment was the xray, impressions and spacers appointment. No doubt now that he has a big mouth. LOL! The spacers are apparently painful. They recommend Tylenol. I asked about Aleve and they said no because it is an anti-inflammatory! So apparently they want you to be uncomfortable? Well, it is only eight months: the actual braces go on next week and come off in August.

S.O. Unified Bowling State Tourney
Friday was the Special Olympic Unified Bowling State Tournament. We had to get on the bus early early (!) 5:45a. Ugh. That is really early for me. I know it does not seem that early. However, when I have to get up early, I end up waking up several times during the night thinking that I have overslept. I woke up and could not get back to sleep at 3:30a!! But I since I despise driving in Bham, it was well worth it to let someone else drive. It also allowed me to knit all the way. It is so hard to knit and drive...no I haven't tried it...I was just kidding. We got home at 5p so it was a long long day.
The unified tournament team is made up of two pairs of participants. The pairs have one special and one abled bowler and the participants are usually related some way. There were 60 plus teams from all over the state bowling on Friday. Buddy and I have been bowling with L and his son, C every Sunday for a couple of months. We have a lot of fun and never take it too seriously. C has had a tough year, he was out several weeks with the flu. I was just glad that he felt well enough to participate.
C and Buddy bowled their average. L and I bowled better than our average. I was hoping for a spectacular game. It didn't happen. But we bowled well enough to win our division! Buddy and C were so happy to get their gold medal! The win could make us eligible to go to Nationals in Reno.

Just for Today
Outside my window... the sun is shining on the golden maple leaves.
I am thinking ... about Christmas
I am thankful for... the brave men and women in harms way at this moment
I am wearing... royal blue sweater with black windowpane pants and black leather jacket, black boots and a polka dot scarf and a premier necklace
I am remembering... my Dad – wishing we could put the estate stuff to bed
I am hearing ... co-workers working on details for the Thanksgiving dinner we are having tomorrow.
I am going... to get ready for making backpacks for the rescue mission kids.
I am reading... Grace for the Moment by Max Lucado
From the learning rooms ... you may think you understand a person's situtation, but if you are not in their shoes...you really just don't know.
I am hoping... that today will be a great day.
On my mind ... Special Olympic Unified Bowling in B'ham on Friday
Pondering these words…Proverbs 17:22 A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
From the kitchen... the yummy banana bread a co-worker brought this morning.
Around the house... it is slowly getting less cluttered
One of my favorite things…going to the driving range
From my photo memories… He can make me smile!

All Things Considered
All things considered, it was a pretty crappy week. It was all I could do not to point my car towards I-65 south to the beach. This is all I wanted to see...
Instead, I went to the driving range and hit 100 golf balls just as hard as I could. Rather good therapy, I must admit. Probly a good thing that I didn't take off, my car ended up in the shop this week. Ugh. More ching spent on non-fun items.

Snow in Alabama...almost
Halloween 2009
On Halloween, Buddy and I had the best time at Tate Farms. The have a big bin of corn that you can play in like a sand box. One of the workers said that they tried soybeans but they would get into the kids ears!
The weather was pretty cool and it was still quite muddy but we still had fun.
The corn cob train was definitely the best part!
Buddy liked petting the rabbits. He was not as fond of the goats, pigs and llama. He told the pigs “oooh… too messy!”.

Constant Change
"I try to take life one day at a time...but lately several days have attacked me all at once". Too true! We had another lay-off at work. This was the first one with me sitting in the payroll chair. I was not involved on the front-end of the process...I'm just left to mop up the mess. I so love the promises people make, when I'm the one who has to try to make it happen. But I persevere to be graceful under pressure.

Track and Field
Frazzled Thoughts
We are frazzled females living life on the edge. My question is when did busyness become a virtue? It seems to me that running around like a decapitated chicken should indicated bad time management, a lack of discipline, poor planning or the inability to work efficiently. We, however, tend to wear it like a badge of honor. Living on the busyness treadmill with the mind on autopilot. Some women I know are earnestly striving to win the busyness competition. They rattle off all the things they do in a day. Then they raise an eyebrow to see if you can match their “contributions” to society. It is like a contest: the Amazing Busyness Race.
We as women define ourselves by what we do, instead of by who we are. We appear significant and worthy when we have a list of accomplishments. Society expects us to have a full resume. So, we are continually trying to prove ourselves, live up to the expectations of others and appear in control. All of which can be addictive, it is after all called a workaholic.
Granted we live in a speed-driven culture: do-it-all, have-it-all, over-achieve-it-all and all in less time. What, may I ask, are we doing with all of this effort of doing? We have loaded down our cart with rocks. We are exhausted from dragging all of these rocks around. If we were honest, we would admit that most of the rocks are not even ours.
We have become “people pleasers”. We seem unable to say no to a request. Since we won’t say “no”, we get busier and busier. This allows distractions to rush in and divert us from our priorities. We are tricked into thinking if we do not take care of the rock that no one else will. We take on impossible schedules and proceed to beat ourselves up for not completing all of the projects we have taken on. Stolen moments to ourselves are rarely enjoyed thanks to the guilt: it that tells us to get up and get busy.
We do not have to look far to find distractions. We have gadgets to provide noise and information over-load. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year and from almost anywhere we are bombarded with the worlds problems. Remember the good old days when the television cut off at night with the national anthem and did not resume until the 5am farm report?
So activity is bad? No, I fully agree that we should have full days of rest, activity and play. We occasionally should have spurts of activity. We, however, should not be perpetually busy. If that is the case, we are not controlling our life, our life is controlling us. It is as if life has the accelerator pedal stuck to the floorboard and is our driving our joy in life into the ground. We have become the society human-doers instead of human beings. The result of the frantic pace has been emotionally stressful, physically draining and spiritually crippling for all of us.
So is the answer is to become more efficient? We have become hyper-organized and highly efficient superwomen. So, it is not the case of living more efficiently. We just have to live more effectively. We need to spend the most time on what we value the most.
A monetary budget is a tool to track where your money is going. So, how about a time budget to see where you spend your time each day? Then use the classifications below to prioritize:
I. Urgent and Important (e.g. Family, Work)
II. Urgent and Unimportant (e.g. Email, Phone)
III. Not Urgent but Important (e.g. Prayer, Eat, Sleep, Exercise)
IV. Not Urgent and Not Important (e.g. TV, Internet, Games, Shopping)
Prioritize to identify the essential. Simplify to eliminate the rest. Perfection is not realistic, be protective of your time, absolutely positively schedule down time. When we are running around frantically, what goes first? Usually the answer is solitude! Everyone needs quiet time. But do not do it because of a rule (law), but because of grace. Make time for it. Separate yourself. Read. (deep reading…not microwave reading) Pray. And listen quietly.

Golly Bob Howdy!
Saturday, Buddy and I watched the Toy Story & Toy Story 2 double feature in 3D. It was a marathon but well worth it. They previewed the new Toy Story 3 and it looks to be just as good. The premise is that Andy goes off to college and the toys end up at a daycare. I am all for supporting those who are still making family friendly movies.

History in the Making
Friday night: the frozen tundra of HGHS (well maybe not quite frozen), history was made! After more than two-and-a-half years, the frustration ended for HG's football team, and so did the state's longest current losing streak. HG, which hadn't won since beating an out-of-conference opponent in the 2006 season finale, got 127 yards and three touchdowns for a 20-17 win and snapped the 27-game losing streak! The fans rushed the field and an impressive fireworks started the celebration! Despite freezing temperatures, no one wanted to go home: it was sweet! I was so happy for the kids, especially the seniors, to win at home during homecoming weekend!
